Some Sunday Stitching

My spinner blocks are spread out all over the living room floor, but my mojo for this Sunday isn't sewing together those long rows of half square hexagons... perhaps later tonight...

This morning I have been playing with a sample piece for some FMQ I put together while I had my machine set up yesterday - just practicing some wavy lines

What to do with this quilted square? My coffee table has all kinds of little knick-knacks spread out, so I decided to pull out needle and thread...

...and turn it into a thread/all-kinds-of-stuff catcher

Dug through my bag of buttons and found this - not sure how old that is, but from the price tag I would guess mid 80s (?)

Another Round We Go block has joined it's friends - having heaps of fun stitching these blocks.

Not really keeping with the program and making four of the same from each seed pack (though I will make more of the same patterns)

Linking up with Slow Sunday Stitching over at Kathy's Quilts and join the celebration of the 5th anniversary for this fun world wide stitching bee. Thanks for keeping it up, Kathy!

Braid Table Runner

I needed a break from my spinner blocks, and decided to play a bit with my mini Hex 'n More ruler. The pieces for the braid is cut from 1.5" strips from my scrap box. The inner border is a 1" strip, and the outer border is 2.5" wide.

I had myself convinced that I would only need two strips wof for the binding - my mistake! I ended up with a gap of about 2" and had to attach a small piece in between. But I don't think anyone will notice the extra seam

The table runner was started on July 28th and finished on the 29th. The finished runner measures 11"x33", a good size for my kitchen table.

The quilting on it is inspired by this tutorial video by Angela Walters

I still have heaps of practice to do to get my flowers even in shape and spacing, but I'm pleased with the over all look of the runner.

Like I Needed Another Project

What to do when temptation knocks on your door? You answer, and invite it in...? At least that's what I did when I discovered Round We Go BOM program by Sue Daley. I really have no need for another project, but this one I just couldn't resist.

It's all (almost) English paper piecing and some appliqué. The epp blocks are round, and then appliquéd to a background. Going to attempt tidying up in some of my blue and teal fabrics for this one. Going through the drawer pulling out fabric I found pieces from the late 1990s - this can be an interesting project ;-)

Two blocs have come together and more are in the making

Linking up with Kathy and Slow Sunday Stitching - this will be a slow stitching project for the next year or so. Looking forward to seeing what eveyone is stitching on this fine Sunday.

Table Topper - An Actual Finish

Yey, I have actually finished something! This table topper was part of Fat Quarter Shop's table runner program they did last year on patterns by Doug Leko of Antler Quilts.

This one is based on the Star Light, Star Bright pattern. However I opted to make it a square rather than a runner.

I started this one in October 2016 while away on a weekend retreat at Lapp-Elisa. I finished the top, got it layered and did the stippeling in the light area... then it was put in my bag...

Earlier this week my Mum asked if I had something made that we could give away for a birthday present, and this came to mind. I did the quilting in the stars and the border Tuesday night, and last night I got the binding on.

Pretty happy with how it turned out, and hope the recepient will be pleased with it!

Even More Epp Hexie Stars

I have spent a few days at our summer house. And loaded up my phone with some radio theater and a good audio book I have been able to relax with some hand sewing. Made heaps of progress on my English paper pieced hexie stars:

Tally is now 29 - still have a bunch to go ;-)

Nine more blocks have been prepped, ready for some relaxing hand work.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday night!

FNwF - Spinning Nostalgia

Still trying to bust some stash. Over the years I have accumulated quite a collection of pre-cuts. Not sure how old some of the jelly rolls, honey buns etc are... So the other night, after finishing the little Gazebo mat, I pulled out my large Hex 'n More ruler and a jelly roll of Nostalgia by April Cornell and started cutting:

Tonight some of the blocks have started to come together - think this will be a cute one:

Linking up with Cheryll over at Gone stitchin' and Friday Night with Friends. It's so much fun to sew in this virtual bee, knowing that there are people all over the world participating :-) Going blog hopping over the weekend!

Mini Gazebo - Using Some Scraps

Last night while sorting through a box of scraps my Mini Hex'n More ruler turned up. And I just had to play with it for a little while!  So I grabbed my little cutting mat and my small rotary cutter and some tiny scraps and started cutting:

I have been drooling over Jaybird Quilts' Gazebo pattern for a while, and that is what came to mind when I found the mini ruler. The original table topper is made from 2,5" strips and using the large ruler, so I had to down scale it for my little project and my small scraps.

The pattern looks so complicated, but it's actually quite easy do do. It all came together in just a couple of hours. The binding went on this morning - and I'm very pleased with how it turned out! 6" hexagon is the perfect size as a candle mat.

Nine Patches and Star Blocks

I have finished the 15 nine patch blocks for the scrappy sew-along; pretty happy with how they turned out. Looking forward to the next step! ...assuming that's a whole bunch of hour glass blocks...

Two more epp star blocks have come together over coffee this morning - ok, so I had started stitching on both earlier this week, and I had a slow Sunday morning with heaps of coffee *lol* The tally is now 15 blocks.

Linking up with Kathy's Quilts and Slow Sunday Stitching, and I'll go blog hopping later tonight;-)

Wishing all a wonderful day!

Joining a Scrappy Quilt Sew Along

Sherri over at A Quilting Life has started a sew-along based on one of her grandmother's unfinished quilts. It looks like a bit of a stash buster, with big pieces and simple shapes that should go together easily.

The clues are being revealed over three Fridays, this week was the second clue; 15 nine patch blocks. I have started pulling some scraps and stitching the blocks.

Last week's clue was cutting a bunch of 6.5" squares - I'll do some more sorting through my scraps and hopefully I can use up some of the odder pieces in my stash.

Anyone else doing this sew-along?
