God jul! Merry Christmas! And Christmas Beauty

Wishing all my blogfriends a happy holiday!

The binding on my Christmas Beauty quilt was stitched down last night, and this morning it was popped in the washing machine. Unfortyunately the tumble dryer has gone on vacation, so at the moment it is flat drying on the floor:

Very happy my Christmas quilt is finished for Christmas

Sunday Sewing

The blocks are done, 80 buckeye beauty blocks = 960 pieces ...and I'm contemplating a pieced border... not really sure how I'm going to pull it together.

Today the plan is to get the top together:

Still hoping to have the quilt ready for Christmas - a bit nuts, I know 😉

Looking pink

Making a bit of progress on my Christmas Beauty, and it looks like the star layout is here to stay.

But I have discarded some of the blocks. I really love the red and white check fabric, however it kind of looks pink from a distance:

A bit of an eye sore with all the christmassy reds that break towards maroon and orange. Much better without the check, but that means some block do-overs

Sunday Sewing

My plan for the day went right out the window as the mood for sewing took over,

and I have made a bit of progress on my Christmas Beauty quilt. I quite like the star look, but have not quite decided on the layout:

This morning I pulled out my copy of the audio version of Jennifer Chiaverini's The Christmas Quilt to have as entertainment while stitching my blocks.

I'm enjoying re-listening to the story of the Bergstrom's past Christmas traditions. The audio lasts for 6h 30min, and Christina Moore did a wonderful job reading.

Christmas Beauty

While tidying up some stuff yesterday, I found a pile of Christmas fabrics I hadn't cut into. Feeling my fingers starting to itch, but I don't have much time 'till Christmas...

Digging around my books and magazines for an idea, I came across a pattern for a Buckeye Beauty quilt - all four patches and HST's should be fairly quick and easy????

What is a Buckeye Beauty made from Christmas fabrics? A Christmas beauty, of course :-)

Happy quilting!

Walking the Medieval Moat

Thought I'd take everyone on a tour of the medieval moat around the old Rhodes City. It was a hot, but lovely walk through a well kept park area:

Box of treasure

There was a sale at the craft web shop last weekend, and I did a little guiltless shopping. Picked up my box of treasure tonight:

Yummy! Looking forward to playing with these!

Weekend Bordering

My sewing goal for this weekend is all about attaching borders to a star/courthouse steps quilt I started while away at a retreat at Lapp Elisa's last October:

To the retreat I brought a stack of fat eights I had in my stash for ages, as well as a couple of FQs and some bits and pieces. When the blocks were done, there were hardly a scrap left. But since this was to be a quilt from stash, I didn't want to purchase any border material. I was thinking scrappy, but I haven't had a great idea for how to do it. So the top has been hanging on my quilt rack since I got home, awaiting a solution...

...which turned out quite simple, just a narrow 1.5" light scrappy stop border, and a floral Kansas Troubles fabric I have been hoarding . Why complicate what can be solved simply?

On to cutting and sewing! And looking through stash to figure out what would fit as a backing and binding...  Fingers crossed it will all turn out good!

Bowl of Bonus Blocks

When I made all the flying geese units for the Twin Star blocks, I saved all the triangles that were cut off and used them as deviders/leaders and enders when stitching the blocks together. Whenever one was stitched I just put them in a bowl on my desk.

Each of the HST units measure 1.75", which a good size to play with making some bonus blocks. The Dutchman's Puzzle blocks in the picture measure 5.5", and will be five inches finished.

This is a lot of good fabric I couldn't throw away. There are also some bits and pieces left over from cutting up the jelly roll that might come into play with these :-)

Sunday Stitching

I made a lot of progress on my Twin Stars yesterday. All the blocks got done by the time I went out to meet my friend K. We went to the cinema to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.

Both of us really enjoyed the first film, and had mixed expectations about the second, but we both enjoyed it. Doubt I'll be seeing it as many times as the first one, though. After we went to Gandhi for a yummy Indian dinner.

I did sew a little more when I got home, and by the time I went to bed I had three of the seven rows done. This morning I stitched the four remaining rows, and sewed them together. Now it's time for a good press and adding the borders :-)

Hope eveyone in Blogland is having a great Sunday!

Even More Star Blocks

The Twin Stars quilt is taking shape - and I'm pretty pleased with the over all look so far

The contrast in some of the square in a square units isn't optimal, but I can live with it as I think it will create interest in the finished qult.

All the half square triangles, flying geese, four patches and square in a square units are sewn, and the blocks are laid out next to Bernie to be stitched together whenever I'm in the mood.

Happy quilting!

More Stars + Sunday Reading

Stitched a few more star blocks last night, and pressed them this morning. This project is really starting to take shape, Very happy with the look of it so far:

Beautiful weather in Oslo at the moment, and the feel of Easter has decended upon us. A week ago I picked up a few of the Cobbled Court quilts novels by Marie Bostwick. Brought the book and a cup of tea with me to the park today to enjoy the lovely spring sunshine.

Enjoying the novel a lot so far, still getting to know the main charachters.

Have a wonderful Sunday!
